Belgium: The high voltage offshore substation for Parkwind's Northwester 2 offshore wind farm has arrived at the Port of Oostende and will be installed at the wind farm site in the Belgian part of the North Sea, roughly 52 km off the coast.
The substation was built by Bladt Industries at its facility in Denmark. It was then loaded out on the pontoon and towed to Port Oostende.
Once the monopile and the intermediate section of the substation is installed at the project site. Scaldis Salvage and Marine Contractors' DP2 crane vessel will lift and install the substation topside.
Northwester 2 is being developed by Parkwind, and will be the sixth wind farm in the North Sea off the Belgian coast. Consisting of 23 V164-9.5 MW turbines, it will provide a total of 219 MW from its location off the coast of Zeebrugge. The project will have a 25 year life span and is expected to supply enough electricity to power over 200,000 households.
