Canada, Ontario: A transformer failure occurred last week at the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station on the shores of Lake Huron, Ontario, resulting in the release of mineral oil. While monitoring is ongoing, there is no indication of mineral oil reaching Lake Huron.
The transformer failure occurred outside the Unit 8 building at the Bruce B generating station. The unit was offline for planned maintenance, Bruce Power said in a press release.
There is a collection system designed and in place to capture mineral oil under such circumstances and Bruce Power has confirmed that all the mineral oil is captured, the press release said.
Bruce Power’s response teams and fire suppression systems responded to the incident putting the situation under control.
