Canada, British Columbia: BC Hydro has completed a $21 million (CAD 27.5 million) upgrade of the Fernie substation to meet the growing electricity needs in the region in the next few decades.
Among other works, the project included installation of an additional transformer and distribution feeder, as well as adding new and improved technology, BC Hydro stated in the press release.
The substation was originally built in the early 1970s and was reaching capacity.
BC Hydro is spending more than $2 billion annually over the next decade to upgrade its existing assets and build new infrastructure aiming to ensure it can continue delivering clean, reliable power to its growing number of customers.
