United Kingdom, Isle of Man: Brush Transformers were recently awarded an order to repair a 60 MVA transformer on the Isle of Man.
The transformer is critical to the island as it supplies electricity via the sub-sea cable link from the UK mainland, the company said in a press statement.
Because the transformer was located in a very tight space, to extract it required the demolition of the outer wall of the building as well as draining and removing a reactor that was blocking the exit route.
The unit was then turned 180 degrees before being carefully skidded and placed onto the back of a waggon. The first reactor was then reinstated.
Brush brought the transformer back to Loughborough where it was de-tanked, inspected and will receive a full internal replacement before being returned to site.
